2022 – The Year in Review

What a year of ups and downs. Coming off a year of unprecedented remodeling demand combined with supply chain volatility and out-of-control costs, not much changed to start 2022. Rather than sit around and complain, the DR team invested our time and resources in understanding the reality of the situation and getting better any way that we can. This included industry education, certifications, and improving the overall client experience. Let’s take a look at some highlights…

January-March
To kick off the year, the DR Team hit the road and attended the International Builders’ Show in Orlando, FL. This is THE premier trade show for the construction and remodeling industry, showcasing the newest design trends, innovative products, and industry education to attendees from all over the world. Our team obtained a wealth of knowledge and can’t wait to incorporate new ideas that will help transform our clients’ homes!

April-June
The second quarter of 2022 included another road trip, sandwiched by a prestigious industry award AND certification! After learning that DR received the Guildmaster Award (with Highest Distinction) for demonstrating exceptional customer service in the remodeling industry, we were able to visit a nationally recognized remodeling firm in Atlanta, GA, Innovative Construction. Through Remodelers Advantage, a national organization dedicated to improving remodeling best practices, we visited Clark Harris and his wonderful team of professionals to learn exciting new ways we can best enhance OUR client experience. And to top it off, Scott DiFabion earned the prestigious Certified Remodeling Project Manager (CRPM) designation through NARI (the National Association of the Remodeling Industry)!

July-September
On the heels of being nationally recognized with the Guildmaster Award, DiFabion Remodeling was honored to be named one of the top 100 Remodelers in the nation by Qualified Remodeler Magazine. The recipients of this honor demonstrated the top three service traits in the remodeling industry, including “professional and organized, having expertise, and astounding problem resolution,” in addition to a stellar recommendation rate of 99% by past clients! Locally, DR’s own, Toni Reavis, was busy furthering the NARI core purpose to advance and promote the remodeling industry’s professionalism, product, and vital public purpose through Women In NARI, a sub-group created by our local Charlotte chapter. WIN’s mission is to educate women and youth on the diverse careers and impacts that can be made in the remodeling industry. Keep up the great work, Toni!

October-December
DR finished the year strong by winning five local Contractor of the Year (CotY) awards for NARI Charlotte in the categories of best Residential Interior, Addition, Exterior, Detached Structure, and the People’s Choice Award! With the countless blessings we received in 2022, it was time for DiFabion Remodeling to give back to the community and raise money for local families in need during the holiday season. Through the Business Leaders of Charlotte (BLOC), DR was able to participate in the annual BLOC-n-Bowl, where we “bowled for dollars” and helped raise $30,000 to help purchase holiday necessities like groceries and warm clothing for local Charlotte families, as well as a sizable donation to Alongside Families, a local nonprofit focusing on family preservation and the prevention of children unnecessarily entering foster care during a family crisis. This truly was the most rewarding experience we had all year.

In Closing…
There you have it. Another year in the books! The DiFabion Family would like thank all of our wonderful team members and clients, and wish you all a safe and enjoyable holiday season with your family and friends. We can’t wait for another exciting year and look forward to facing the many challenges it may bring, head-on and without fear!

Welcome to the Team, Mike Waite!

We are pleased to announce our newest addition to the DR Family…Mike Waite! Serving as our newest Project Developer, he will be working closely with clients and coworkers to maintain and grow our development as a remodeling firm. Now, let’s hear a few words from Mike himself.

“My name is Mike Waite, proud to be a new Project Developer for DiFabion Remodeling. I am not new to professional remodeling industry, as I served as Executive Director for NARI of Greater Charlotte from 2011 – 2020, including three years on the national board of directors, leading the team that made NARI Charlotte the most decorated chapter in the country.

Even though I was born in Michigan I have been in North Carolina most of my life, primarily in the Charlotte region. I live in a 112-year-old country, farmhouse in Midland, NC, have been married (Regina) for 36 years, and have six children, ages 20 – 34 (and two dogs). We love the outdoors, camping/hiking, live music and sporting events. We are collectively on a quest to visit every National Park in the U.S., and I am simultaneously on a mission to visit all 30 major league baseball ballparks (I’m up to 28 out of 30).

Professionally, I have only had a few jobs, about ten years each. After college (UNC-Charlotte/BS in Economics), I was a project manager for a civil/environmental engineering firm, owned my own company offering Corporate Team Building and Leadership Training, and served as Executive Director for NARI of Greater Charlotte, with a few experiments in between.

I’ve admired the model of excellence created by DiFabion Remodeling and feel fortunate to join this winning team!”

We are excited to have Mike on our team and watch him thrive in his element. Welcome to the team, Mike!

Wall Removal and Dated Rooms

Rooms that used to be an essential for any home are simply no longer needed for the modern-day family. Many formal dining and sitting rooms stand untouched to collect dust or fancy furniture that’s rarely used. Some homeowners will settle with these unusable spaces, but with the right team, you can utilize these wasted rooms and enhance other spaces to meet your family needs!

Take a look at this home we renovated in Matthews, NC. The kitchen was closed off and narrow – making it difficult to entertain during the holidays and important events. The formal dining room was seldom used and occupied valuable real estate that could be allocated elsewhere. With creative and thoughtful design, we repurposed the formal dining room into a stylish new “remote work” office and removed a few walls to open up the kitchen to rest of the home. The new open floor plan includes a massive island with ample seating, while the hosts enjoy entertaining family and friends for years to come. What a beautiful transformation!

Brass: A Design Trend Today

In the ’80s and ’90s, cheap brass fixtures and hardware were the standard in many homes. Brass can sometimes be associated with your grandmother’s old antique collection, pieces from an earlier time that reside in an old cabinet. Today, brass is no longer seen as old-fashioned or out of style. A different type of brass has become a popular trend in many kitchens and bathrooms, more and more each day!

In a different name, like antique, satin, polished, champagne, or honey bronze, the “new age” brass adds dimension to a space that can be stunning. When contrasted against all-white or darker color surroundings, these brass finishes can be expressed through plumbing fixtures, lighting, hardware, cabinetry accents, and even appliances.

One thing we love about these versatile brass finishes is what they can add to the warmth, style, and elegance of any room. When it comes to colorful and bright interiors, polished brass complements the design beautifully. In a space that utilizes a more neutral palette, satin brass can add a bit of glamor. Antique brass is excellent for a more settled-in, classy, elegant look. What was once considered “dated” and “old-fashioned,” brass is now a versatile and popular trend that can add so much to any new space in your home.
