Dilworth Bathroom
Back to all projects
This modern bathroom changed enormously in style and functionality as compared to the original bathroom that lacked pazazz and was in serious need of updating. The long and narrow room created a “bowling alley” effect and required smart design decisions in order to achieve the “wow” factor the homeowners were looking for. Cleanability was a must have as well, and with that came the request for a doorless shower and as little grout in high traffic areas as possible. The request for a doorless shower required more interior shower length to prevent overspray which wasn’t available in the current layout, and the clunky acrylic whirlpool tub was dated and difficult to clean.
By eliminating the walls around the built-in acrylic tub, we were able to gain the needed length within the shower to achieve a doorless wet room. Removing these tub walls and installing a floor to ceiling glass wall between the new free-standing tub and shower also cut down on the bowling alley effect by creating visual width. By choosing a large, bold pattern for our floor tile we not only cut down on grout joints for added cleanability but drew the eye to the perimeter of the room to further increase the visual width. We discarded the narrow deep linen closet and opted for a built-in tall linen cabinet to match our wood vanities, creating warmth and balance.
