The Pros & Cons of Quartz Countertops

Will Quartz Countertops Work in Your Charlotte Home?

If you’re remodeling your bathroom or your kitchen and are looking for a new and stylish look for your countertops, you might be considering a quartz countertop. These relatively new types of countertops offer an attractive and durable option for upgrading your North Carolina home.

You might have considered yourself loyal to granite, but before you set any decisions in stone, learn more about granite’s new challenger: quartz. You may be surprised to find that for all of the things you love about granite, quartz offers them and more!

Pros of Quartz Countertops

There are many different pros to using quartz as your countertop material. Aside from being a beautiful new addition to your home, it’s a strong material that can withstand a good bit of wear and tear (which is very necessary for high-traffic areas like bathrooms and kitchens).

Durability

Since most quartz countertops are engineered from special materials using a specific manufacturing process, the result ends up being nearly indestructible countertops. Additionally, engineered quartz resists corrosion, stains, liquids, and oils due to its non-porous makeup.

Style & Design

Quartz is a manufactured stone, and because of this, it comes in many more colors and styles than natural stones like marble and granite, each one beautiful, giving you an array of different options to fit within your home decor. Another benefit to quartz is the nearly white background it offers, something nearly impossible to find in granite.

Low Maintenance

Many natural stone countertops require resealing every so often, special cleaning products, and more to stay in tip-top condition. Because quartz is nonporous, it resists stains and stays cleaner than most materials. This means you can use whatever cleaner you prefer, and you don’t have to worry about sealing it.

Sounds like a total win, right? With all of these pros, there’s no wonder that quartz countertops have become more and more popular over the years.

Cons of Quartz Countertops

Although there are plenty of pros to quartz, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have its cons. (Albeit not nearly as many.)

Cost

Although its pricing is competitive with other high-end stone countertop materials like granite and slate, it’s not an extremely cheap option. Ranging from $115-200 per square foot, many people who end up shying away from quartz do so simply due to the price.

Contemporary Style

This isn’t necessarily a con, but it certainly can be for homeowners who prefer a more classical or natural look in their kitchen. It’s undoubtedly true that quartz has a more modern look than other materials like granite, marble, or even wood, so this con simply depends on your tastes. If you love a modern, contemporary look, this could be even more of a pro for you!
