Remodeling in 2025 – The Right Move

The 2024 numbers are in. Remodeling activity is back on the move! While housing affordability remains a hot-button issue across the national landscape, the remodeling industry is seeing increased demand after nearly two years of decline or stagnant growth, according to most experts.

The housing industry as a whole has the same negative drivers, including government regulation, high interest rates, low inventory, inflated home values, and rising costs of building materials. However, this can have the opposite effect on home remodeling.

In a nutshell, the low inventory of for-sale homes at inflated values and high interest rates are forcing consumers to stay put and keep their low mortgages while renovating with cash or the equity they’ve built over time.

Now that we’re past the pre-election jitters, which is a historical reality, homeowners are seeing less regulation and lower interest rates on the horizon, which should provide a boost to the housing industry. That doesn’t mean everything is rosy. The ongoing shortage of skilled labor becomes even more of an uncertainty, along with the threat of tariffs, meaning construction costs will continue to rise.

For at least the first six months of 2025, the JCHS of Harvard University and the US Remodeler Index see an increased demand in home remodeling because it remains a more economical option with less risk than selling their home and buying something new. If this is an option for you, check out the best way to get started!

Welcome to the Team, Kyle!

As our newest Project Manager, Kyle Fielding is an impressive up-and-comer! Originally from Wilmington, Kyle moved to Charlotte, NC, where he attended high school. From an early age, he always enjoyed working with his hands and showing interest in construction by taking welding and automotive classes.

His background in extremely difficult (and messy) trades, including property restoration and pipeline work, will serve him well in navigating the unpredictability of remodeling.

In his free time, Kyle likes to fish, hunt, and ride four-wheelers. More recently, he became a father to a beautiful little girl. Welcome to the DR Family, Kyle!

Project Profile (Part 1)

This midcentury modern whole-house remodel was too cool to cram into just one newsletter, so we’ll start with the addition and then feature the kitchen and bathroom in part two next month! The existing “sunroom” included a poorly built add-on over a chipped brick exterior patio.

The client was seeking an extension of living space off the rear of the home that incorporated a complete reconfiguration of the kitchen and laundry, along with an inviting space for relaxation while enjoying the private backyard and garden.

The new addition features a midcentury modern design with innovative vertical composite siding and custom full-light picture windows. The contemporary rooflines seamlessly enhance the basic style of this 1970’s brick ranch. Check out the dramatic before and after shots of this amazing project!

Check back next month for part two to see the stunning new interior!
