New Year, New Goals

The New Year is always a great time to start over and set personal goals for a better you. That’s why we do new year resolutions. We identify something we can improve, and we make a plan for positive change. Whether we actually stick to those resolutions, that’s a different story. In business, if you’re not always looking for ways to improve, you probably won’t be around for long.

Whether it’s a new system, process, or even new people, most successful businesses look to improve all year long. But when it comes to a new attitude or business philosophy, the new year is a great time to reset.

The last few years have presented many challenges in the business world. Supply chain delays, labor shortages, inflation, you name it. We’ve also noticed that certain standards have been lowered. Quality, consistency, reliability, and timeliness. We’re told, “this is the new norm” and the first excuse is almost always the pandemic.

At DiFabion Remodeling, this was a hard pill to swallow. For the last 20+ years, we built our reputation on having high standards. We care about quality, consistency, reliability, and timeliness. We don’t like excuses or delays. Our clients deserve better. We’re tired of “the new norm”, and we’re not willing to accept lower standards. So, for 2023, we’re putting our foot down.

No matter what’s going on in the world, it’s time to raise the bar and get back to the high standards we expect from ourselves and those around us. No more excuses. No more compromises. Anything less is unacceptable. For us, that will be the new norm. Here’s to making 2023 a new year to remember!

Room Refreshers

The beauty of remodeling is that you don’t need to change the character of your home to get beautiful results! We have many clients who love the charm of their home but want to add a little updating to the mix. Take this sitting room we completed in South Charlotte – the client loved the personality of the home, but wanted a fresh, new look without compromising the comfy, cozy feel of the original space.

By eliminating the clunky bay window and expanding the footprint of the space, we were able to incorporate floor-to-ceiling windows and doors for an influx of natural light. We maintained the original fireplace facade and knotty pine hardwoods but updated the built-in cabinetry, along with a continuous stone hearth.

The custom coffered ceiling complements the millwork original to the home, while providing added depth and interest to the room. The result is a warm, inviting new space with the same character of the home they originally fell in love with.

Maintaining Character During a Home Remodel

Whether it’s just one room or an entire home, there’s almost always a need for home improvements and updates. One important thing to keep in mind for a home remodel is maintaining the character and integrity of the existing home.

What good is adding state-of-the-art appliances and the hottest new design trends if it clashes with the rest of the house and sticks out like a sore thumb? There are many ways to create your dream home while maintaining certain elements that make the house uniquely yours.

When looking at the spaces you want to improve, build upon existing conditions that can be fundamental in the new design. These can be natural hardwoods, intricate trim details, or applied moldings. These are features that we not only want to keep but highlight for the character unique to your home. From there, the design becomes complementary and evolves with the more modern trends.

Another approach is to repurpose original materials and incorporate them into the new design. This could include a unique species of hardwood or a distinct trim profile. You could even choose a quirky feature of the original home like an oddly shaped nook or doorway and enhance it with updated finishes and bold accents.

At the end of the day, anyone looking to update their home wants the excitement of a newer space, but it still needs to feel like home. These simple solutions can be the best of both worlds without erasing the history and character that carries on the story of the home for years to come.
